Places of Interest in Guerneville

You will find many things to do in Guerneville and the surrounding areas. There are many places to see and activities or events to enjoy. A variety of shopping including antiques and a weekend swap meet are in Guerneville. All are a short walk away.

Korbel Winery is located closest to Guerneville with many other wonderful wineries within a short driving distance offering wine tasting and tours. Ask us for help in personalizing a tour during your stay. We even have vouchers for the wineries offering you a discount on any purchase.

Throughout the redwood forest area are several state parks where you can hike or wander among the giant trees or enjoy a picnic lunch. Our nearest and most visited park is Armstrong Woods State Reserve that is only a few minutes away by car or makes for a great bicycle trip!

Walk to Johnson's Beach to enjoy swimming in the river, canoeing or kayaking. Other beaches are nearby for enjoying the Russian River or extended canoe day trips.

A short drive west takes you to Jenner where the "river meets the ocean." Go south from Jenner to the fishing village of Bodega Bay and enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the bay. Visit the location where Alfred Hitchcock filmed his famous thriller "The Birds." The spectacular Pacific Coast is wondrous with its rocky coastline and thundering waves splashing on shore. Whale watching and playful sea lions are always popular.

Golf is available on the beautiful Northwood course just minutes from Fern Grove. We can arrange a tee time convenient for you.

J's Amusement Park is great for the kids and a pee wee golf course is close by also. These will keep the kids busy for an afternoon.

Bike Tours

Horseback riding

Whale Watching

Sonoma County is not only blessed with the world's oldest redwood trees but its coast line is graced twice each year by the California Gray Whale as they make the 6,500 mile journey from the Arctic to Baja California.

In Sonoma County you can see the whales head to their breeding grounds in the south from November to February and then head back north with their babies in the spring.

From Bodega Head, whale watchers enjoy seeing the whales swim close to the coast. Or you can take a boat tour accompanied by a naturalist. You may see other whale species during your trip, as well as sea lions and dolphins.

Each season brings fresh challenges and rewards to fishermen, whether you fish the Russian River or the nearby Pacific Ocean. The river offers Salmon: Sept-Nov; Steelhead: Dec-April; Shad: May-June; Bass: June-Oct.

Fort Ross

In 1812, Fort Ross was established by Russians as an outpost for sea otter hunters and and as a permanent trading base. Today it is a Historic State Park, located on the Sonoma Coast just 12 miles north of Jenner. The drive from Jenner offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Several buildings and the stockade have been reconstructed, offering a fascinating insight into early California history. Picnic area with wonderful views.

Santa Rosa

Charles M. Schulz Museum. Fans of Peanuts, the timeless cartoon strip, will enjoy the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa. A resident of Santa Rosa for many years, the creator of "Peanuts" died there in February 2000. Charles Schulz became America's most widely read cartoonist ever. See many memories of his life and his beloved characters at the museum.

Luther Burbank Home & Gardens. The famed horticulturist made his home in Santa Rosa for more than 50 years. His home and gardens are now a Registered National, State and City Historic Landmark. Visit the Burbank home, the Carriage House, the original greenhouse and gardens.

Pacific Coast Air Museum Experience the adventure and excitement of some of the greatest aircraft in our history. Climb aboard featured airplanes every third weekend of the month. Get up close to historic war-birds that served their country throughout WW II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm.


Play golf at the beautiful Northwood Golf Course just three miles from Fern Grove Cottages. Designed by Alistair MacKenzie, architect of Cypress Point and Augusta National courses, and nestled among redwoods, Northwood offers a unique setting for golfers and nature lovers alike.
